‘Set in Stone’ was yet another track that involved large amounts of editing to be able to have it fit a manageable slot on the album, and it was heart breaking at times to do this as the original mix really grew and evolved over its original 11 minutes.
I started the editing by finding a suitable place to start the track, and chose to use the 3:48 point of the original mix, discarding the rather gradual build up that occurs previous.
Once into the first break, I had to do a lot of editing and modification of the arrangement to make the progression occur quicker, and once the break kicks back in I removed a 32 bar section and placed the remaining section onto the end of the break. I did the same after the second break at 3:26, and extended the outro to fit into ‘Love Stimulation’ which appears at 4:26. The final 8 bars of ‘Set In Stone’ is actually a continual loop of a small section right before the end of the original mix, something I chose to do as I thought it made the transition much more fluid to progress and filter over 8 bars instead of its original 4.

As mentioned in the main section of the blog, trimming the tracks down to fit onto a compilation was a hard decision in many ways, and I always made sure I was respectful to the original track, but at the same time leave enough detail out to warrant wanting to find the release in it’s original 12″ form.
