‘Café Del Mar’ was one of those tracks that I initially thought was going to be a complete nightmare to edit due to its long progressive intro and atmospheric breakdown, but it turns out it was actually one of the easiest.
My main approach to the editing was to listen very carefully to what I could remove, and it turns out that all I needed to do was make two very direct edits to shorten the arrangement.
The first edit was to cut a section at 2.33 of the original mix and push the 16 bars before the breakdown to this point, as this made the break appear faster but still have enough detail going on within the progression to give the original sense of mood, and the second edit was 8 bars after the drop kicks back in after the breakdown, where I pushed the last 32 bars of the arrangement to this point.
The following track ‘Shine’ comes in at 4.13 and is a very standard transition compared to some of the others across the disc, it signals a change in key after the root transition of the previous 2 tracks, plus it signals a change in mood as the next few tracks in the mix take a much more vocal path.
