This track was quite important in terms of the overall flow of the CD, as it was around the halfway point in terms of the total duration of the disc, and I wanted to bring attention to this and make the track the pivotal turning point of the mix, marking the transition into the more trancier elements included in the later tracks.
This was achieved by being a little more liberal in terms of track length, giving the track closer to 5 minutes as opposed to the 3-4 minutes of previous tracks.
From an editing point of view I changed the arrangement slightly, by altering the transition into the first breakdown at 1:24, and removing a couple of 8 bars sections to speed up the progression.
At 2:37 the track kicks back in which on the original is the point of a full bass progression and vocals, but I removed the entire chorus section and instead opted to move up the static pedal bass progression as I wanted the following 2 minutes to have a much deeper mood.
The following track ‘Lifesigns’ comes in at 4:28 and this was the first time in the CD that I introduce merging breakdowns together, the main reason being that both sections merge effortlessly and to the untrained ear it almost sounds like the same track. To help sculpt the sections together in a more cohesive fashion, I allowed a further 1 bar section of ‘My Soul’ to flow into the start of ‘Lifesigns’, fading out the volume so I could get the tail end of any reverbs and sustained release sections from the sound design of ‘My Soul’.
